A Journey Back in Time

Bangkok is a city of contrasts - Buddhist temples, golden-topped palaces, trendy sky bars, and traditional Thai living along the waterways - called khlongs - offering marvelous photo opportunities. This morning, head with your private guide to the historic center of Bangkok and start your day at Wat Suthat. Few visitors come to this temple early, so much the better to enjoy the monks melodic chanting ritual. It’s an incredible sensory experience. From here, a walk to Wat Pho (famous for its 141-foot-long reclining Buddha) allows you a glimpse into small alleys with wooden houses, guardian spirit signs and lively fruit and flower markets. Your next stop takes you to the most revered shrine in the Kingdom, Wat Phra Kaew, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, as well as the splendor of the adjacent Grand Palace. For your last stop, we cross the Chao Phraya River by water-taxi to visit Wat Arun, the Temple of Dawn. Unique from the rest of Bangkok’s temples, Wat Arun’s iconic stunning design is made up of colorfully decorated spires that look as if to stand guard over the river. Enjoy a leisurely lunch Savoey Restaurant to conclude your morning, and experience the mid-day bustling atmosphere of the lively Chao River. After lunch your guide will accompany you back to your hotel.

A Sight To Behold

The countryside surrounding Bangkok is dotted with lively traditional floating markets, where colorful vendors paddle along in their canoes brimming with fresh fruit, vegetables and souvenirs hawking their wares to shoppers on the banks. Beat the crowds and depart the city early in the morning with your private guide for a visit to the kingdom’s largest floating market, Damnoen Saduak, located 50 miles southwest of the city. There is a lot of activity at this bustling vibrant market, and bargaining is common – but don’t expect to get the price down more than a few baht. Navigate the maze of canals for the perfect photo of colorful long-tail boats brimming with tropical fruit and be sure to snack on a bowl of noodle soup. Stretch your legs for a walk along the canal to the neighboring Lao Tak Lak Market where Damnoen Saduak originated for your included lunch. The market here is much calmer, and the architecture from the late 19th century preserves a Thai way of life dating back to when the canals were the main means of transportation. Pass rice paddies and shrimp farms on the return to Bangkok, pausing on route to visit the largest pagoda in Thailand, Nakorn Pathom. This afternoon your guide will assist you with shopping for anything you are looking for. You can visit the Siam Paragon Mall, and local markets.

Elephants have long been a symbol of Thailand – integral to the Royal Family and common Thai people alike for their incredible strength, agility, and intelligence. Your English-speaking guide will accompany you by private vehicle on the drive to Phuket Elephant Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to retired working elephants, set on 30 acres of lush tropical jungle. The sanctuary does not allow elephant riding. Start your visit at the Tree Top Reception and Observation Platform with a viewing of an educational video to prepare you for your encounter with the elephants and learn about why their protection is necessary. Meet the elephants and feed the gentle giants a tasty selection of bananas, pineapples, and cucumbers. After their meal, walk alongside the elephants into the jungle. Retreat to the safe distance of an Observation Sala, overlooking the elephants enjoying their free time bathing and playing in the pond to socializing with each other. As the sanctuary’s top priority is the health and well-being of the playful pachyderms, the sanctuary does not offer rides, shows, bathing, trunk hugging, elephant kisses, sitting on the elephants, loud and noisy groups, or people crowding around the elephants. Todays’ visit will leave you inspired and informed, and your visit goes a long way towards supporting the elephants in the sanctuary and caring for future rescued animals through an ethical approach to elephant interactions and conservation. End your visit with a meal at the Phuket Elephant Sanctuary before your guide and driver accompany you back to your hotel.
